- Pleural mesothelioma,
- Peritoneal Mesothelioma, and
- Pericardial mesothelioma.
Mesothelioma affects pleura is of two categories:
Disjoint or malignant (cancer at):This is a serious form of pleural mesothelioma, which affects the pleural lining of the lungs and surrounding organs.
Localized and benign (non-cancer):
This is a non-cancerous form of mesothelioma, which does not affect any part of the body except the pleura. However, constricts the lungs causing shortness of breath, and in some severe cases, pneumothorax (collapsed lung).
Peritoneal mesothelioma is a cancer of the peritoneum membrane, or abdominal lining, which affects many organs in the abdominal cavity, including the stomach. This form of cancer, mesothelioma is less common than pleural form, but it is more aggressive, leading to serious symptoms and short life expectancy. Like many other types of cancer, peritoneal mesothelioma can be either benign or malignant.
Pericardial or is the rarest form of cancer, counting less than 10% of mesothelioma cases. In this form of cancer, fluid gets accumulated in the bag that surrounds the heart. The main cause of this disease is the inhalation of asbestos fibers.
Because of the rarity of this disease, doctors and researchers are not clear how asbestos fibers enter the heart lining or pericardium. The only logical explanation, if this form of cancer is the possibility of asbestos fibers, converted into tiny pieces, transported from the lungs to the heart through the blood stream. Once asbestos fibers enter the heart, but to expand the tissue in the thoracic cavity and the pericardium with excessive liquid, disrupting the functioning of the heart, causing chest pain with breathing disorders.
Are diagnosed each year about 2,000 new cases of mesothelioma. At some point in their lives that patients mesothelioma were exposed to asbestos that later cause the hideous cancer of mesothelioma. If at some point in his life, he worked in asbestos-rich environment or used any asbestos materials, you should contact mesothelioma doctor for correct diagnosis and best treatment options available.
